Home. What a word. It contained so many associations within Taylor’s mind at the very thought. The first idea of ‘home’ was the small house that she and her parents lived in for her first eleven years of life. It held so many memories, both very good and also horribly traumatic. The second idea was that of Hogwarts, a place where Taylor true grew to love. Although she had a rough start, she fit it by 3rd year and the years from then until Harry Potter’s murder were, to her, considered the best of her life to date. And now? Now her home was in Ireland. Not that she spent much time in the country itself, no. She loved being in England, and apparition was really the most handy for of transportation.
The house was tucked away in the outskirts, but it didn’t matter much to her. She wasn’t going to socialize with any of the muggles around the area, and it wasn’t like she or Connor stayed there much. The house was her home, though, and she’d appreciated it since 3rd year when she was taken out of her father’s abusive hands and sent to her cousin’s sympathetic abode. So she waited there, waiting for Connor to come home. Sipping some butterbeer from her mug, she settled in the armchair in the living room, going over in her head what exactly she’d say. It wasn’t like he’d care much about asking someone else to stay with them, especially considering the circumstances, but she still needed to ask. The two needed to catch up, anyways. She hadn’t seen him in a while, like most weeks, because of how little he stayed in one place.

Ireland wasn't a place Connor visited too often. Too many memories. His dad was away for now; he was travelling the world, life is too short he said, while Connor tried to persuade him that he wasn't capable enough of travelling alone. Either way; his father was off, visiting the different parts of the world, and this house was practically... well, empty. The only person who lived here was his cousin, or rather, practically his little sister; Taylor. She'd been living with him and his dad since she'd been 13, and Connor'd grown rather fond of her. He popped in ever so often to check up on her and stuck around for a while just to check how she was doing.
He opened the door to the house with his keys (there were charms to avoid apparation directly into the house, for obvious reasons; instead Connor had to apparate just on the top step of the house to avoid anyone noticing. Plus their house was secluded enough to avoid too much attention.) Walking in, the first thing he did out of habbit was pull off his dragon-hyde jacket (he found it to be a lot warmer than muggle leather) and fling it over his shoulder. Having done that, he turned to enter the living room, and wasn't surprised in the slightest to find his younger cousin sitting in an armchair sipping butterbeer. He shook his head, an easy smile falling on his face as he dropped his jacket on a three-seater couch that was also in the living room, before walking over to Taylor.
"Hey Kiddo," he greeted with a cheerful grin, his hand automatically making it's way to mess her hair up, as it always did, and his other hand snaking out to grab her butterbeer and steal it. He grinned widely at her, taking a sip of her drink as he backed away before she could get any hits on him or make any attempt to get her drink back. "So, what did you do today?" His voice was filled with mock innocence as he took another sip of her drink. ALL THESE THOUGHTS YOU STOLE FROM ME allison! NOW I'M NOT SURE idk! Oh, Connor. Connor, Connor, Connor. Taylor had a lot of people in her life that she cared about, but Connor was probably the closest thing she had ever had to a brother. The two got along surprisingly well, considering their differences, but it hadn’t always been that way. Sure, her cousin had been in her life since childhood, but after her mother was killed and Taylor was turned, her father cut off communication with anyone else in the family. Of course, she saw Connor at school, but he was six years her senior and she wasn’t exactly open for conversation. It wasn’t like they had anything in common other than family, and she was just a little first year while he was getting ready to graduate. That being said, their relationship at school was near enough non-existent. It wasn’t until word of her abuse got out that parts of her family began to crumble. No one wanted to believe it at first, that there was such monstrousity going on within the Hollow household. But the evidence was overwhelming. And so the trial came and went, and Taylor was placed in the care of her Uncle Flynn.
She loved living there, really. It just took time. She was distraught at the amount of change, and she still felt partially to blame for all the abuse. Her lycanthropy was also an issue, and her uncle took to installing a basement immediately so that she would have a safe place to transform every month. Throughout the years, she developed a strong relationship with her uncle and cousin, and she appreciated their help with her emotional baggage and physical issues.
So it was no surprise, really, when Connor walked in and immediately ruffled her blonde locks and snatched away her butterbeer before she could even protest. Ew, and then he started to drink out of it. She didn’t like things being taken from her, which was probably some sort of odd ‘territorial’ thing, but nonetheless she frowned.
“I purchased that butterbeer, that’s what I did. And now you’ve gone and germed it up.”
She slouched back in her chair, remembering that she actually did have something to talk with him about. Cassie. That wasn’t going to be a fun conversation, but it was one that needed to be had. “Actually, I was hoping you’d stop by. There’s some stuff we need to talk about.”

"Aaah, get over it. I'll buy you another one." Connor took a gulp of the warm goodness, sitting himself down on the couch where he'd previously thrown his jacket. "I'm coming back home from a day of hard, hard work, yeah! I I deserve it." Connor put a bit of a mock huff-y face on before he realized something. Connor raised an eyebrow, surprised at the lack of reaction from Taylor. He figured she'd be a little more excited by his presence, and perhaps a little more annoyed at him stealing her butterbeer.
"That's all? You just chastise me a little? No punches, cool wand-waving?" he winked at her, trying to lighten her somber mood a little sipping her butterbeer again. He wasn't too fussed about stealing her drink: he knew it'd bug her for a while, but she'd get over it. She wasn't the most skippy of the lot, but she normally was a little more animated and happy. But it seemed there was something pressing on her mind, making her a little nervous.
"Is everything okay, Tay?" he said finally, setting the butterbeer down on the table as he looked at her with concern obvious in his eyes. "You know you can Owl me anytime you need me and I'll be here as soon as I can?" He raised an eyebrow, wondering how long she'd actually been waiting for him to just drop in to visit to talk to him about whatever was bothering her. His heart fell a little: Taylor did seem sort of serious, and he was currently yelling at himself internally for not being there for his cousin.
He paused, studying her; trying to go through all the possibl reasons as to why she was so... well, mundane and fairly grim. It wasn't normally like Taylor- unless ofcourse it was nearing a Full Moon... which, he wasn't actually sure of. When he was living with Taylor he was always on top of the moon-phase; now that he was away- well, he was slacking off a little. "Is it something to do with our wolfy-business?" The teasing, the wink, the smiles. They gave her a sense of comfort that was only felt around Connor. He had a way about himself that seemed to ease her, which was probably due to the fact that he was something to hold onto when she was going through her most troubling points in life. There was a playfulness that seemed to be there during just the right times, even if it got on her nerves a bit when she was really trying to concentrate on one thing or another. But right now, there were more pressing matters at hand and she let him turn the conversation into a more serious tone.
”Is it something to do with our wolfy-business?”
Yes, Connor had a way with words. He used to be able to keep up pretty regularly with her, and he would be the one to cheer her up after the particularly painful nights. Wolfsbane potion wasn’t an option with her financial state, although she was saving up for at least one night of relief. But no, it wasn’t the full moon, despite it was only a week away. She wasn’t irritable yet, something that tended to be a side effect of the nearing night.
“Its recent, so I would’ve owled you if you hadn’t come around today. I tend to think that I know you well enough to know about how long you’re usually gone.” She let her smile get a bit playful at the end before becoming serious once more. “The full moon isn’t until next week.”
She sighed and looked at her hands now clasped in front of her before looking back up at her cousin. “You know Cassie Malfoy? The child in the Order?” A child. Just a child. That continued to bewilder her, the age of the soon-to-be-mother and witch fighting in a war much bigger than herself. She didn’t let Connor answer before continuing. “She’s pregnant without a place to stay. She’s a child herself and is generally irresponsible, but I,” she stopped and sighed again, “I can’t just let her stay out there on her own. She needs a place to stay, Connor.”
That was Taylor, alright, always trying to help those in need. It got the best of her at times, especially when she would relate with the most untrustworthy of folks, but for now, Cassie really did need a place to stay. It wasn’t as if Connor lived there much anyways.

Connor didn't answer at first.
He was studying Taylor carefully, resisting the urge to sigh. This was so typical of Taylor; always wanting to do 'the right thing' and help those around her. Oh; Connor wasn't a bad guy- he thought it was a really good quality about her, however, it could often also be seen as a weakness. Many people exploited her need to do good in the world; took advantage of her, and Connor didn't like that. He knew of this Cassie Malfoy; he'd seen her around HQ and spoken to her breifly, but he didn't really know the girl too well. Plus the fact that she was pregnant was sure as hell news to him. He didn't think the kid was bad; despite her heritage, however, she didn't exactly strike him as responsible or sensible in the least. He knew she had to have some ability to be able to join the Order, but... well, he didn't like the sound of this girl.
It didn't help that Taylor herself confirmed that she was generally irresponsible. "Taylor, your need to help others is an admirable quality about you," he sighed, staring at his cousin, "but it's also a weakness- you know that right?" He leaned his elbows on this thighs, interlocking his fingers and staring at his hands, before he looked up at her once again. "I don't really know her, and I'm not that thrilled about the idea of her living here, Tay." Perhaps Connor was being a bit harsh; but despite his fun loving and slightly adventureous side, he was also a very thoughtful and rather concenred and worried guy: especially when it came to really close family or friends. "I'm sure she needs help, but she doesn't sound like someone I want you around." He looked at her, a look of authority shadowing in his eyes. "There are many people who're probably more.... well equipped to take her in Tay."
He sighed, "And it's not just her; I don't want you two girls all alone in this house. Hell it bugs me enough that Dad isn't here right now; I know you're old enough to look after yourself, but you shouldn't have to Tay." He really hoped she was getting where he was coming from; he really did not think it was a good idea for Taylor to have to deal with a pregnant irresponsible girl; not at her age, not in her given state. "And on top of that, add having to look after this young-irresponsible and pregnant girl? I don't know Tay." He shook his head, maintaining eye contact with his little cousin. "Does she even know that you're... that you're a werewolf?" ALL THESE THOUGHTS YOU STOLE FROM ME allison! NOW I'M NOT SURE idk! Before he even opened his mouth to speak, Taylor knew that Connor was not on board with the idea. That was typically how it went. She would bring up an issue, a person who needed a hand, an animal that needed shelter, and he would have to use more logic than she to deduce what to do in the situation. It wasn’t that Taylor wasn’t responsible, because she really was, but it was more important to her to help others than to think of herself in a lot of situations. Did this lead to her being taken advantage of from time to time? Yes, but Taylor always made excuses for others. This was a flaw, and another echo at what the abuse had done to her, something she wasn’t sure she could ever shake, but Connor helped her think clearly.
Despite how correct he was, Taylor still didn’t like hearing it. There was still an issue at hand. Neither of them could leave the girl to the streets, so if she wouldn’t stay here, then where? Connor implied that there were others, but who? It was clear that Connor cared more about Taylor’s state of being than Cassie’s, which is something Taylor needed. Sure, sometimes it made her feel more like a child than anything else, but he was just being himself.
”Does she even know that you’re… that you’re a werewolf?”
Taylor shook her head, realizing his point. Hardly anyone in the Order knew of her condition, besides Remus and probably Sirius. It wasn’t exactly table conversation, and she wouldn’t be opposed to the adult members knowing, but Cassie was just a child. Just a child. The phrase wouldn’t stop coming up in her head.
“Alright,” she said finally, knowing that trying to reason with Connor was next to impossible, considering he was the logical one and she the impulsive. “But she does need some sort of help.” She grew quiet again, slouching back in her chair. The topic was coming to a close. “How have you been?”
The words themselves were exchanged daily between acquaintances, but the way Taylor’s voice held a steady tone and the way she looked at him implied she was asking more than just his mood. As logical as Connor was, Taylor did worry for his safety, especially in these times. The thought of something happening to him was unbearable, but he tended to stay out of trouble for the most part. Well, that’s what he told her at least. YOU CAN TRY TO RESIST MAKKYMAKKYMAKKY TRY TO HIDE FROM MY KISS 416 BUT YOU KNOW nude. completely nude. THAT YOU CAN'T Meh. CAN'T FIGHT THE MOONLIGHT NUDE.

Connor was surprised that Taylor didn't pose more of an argument; she normally did. She normally argued her case a lot more and stuck up for her cause, but her understanding surprised him a little. It also made him aware of something else; that Taylor really was growing up. Sure, she was still a little reckless in the sense that she jumped before thinking and that she tried to save the world before herself, but she was starting to gain more understanding: she was beginning to realize that it wasn't up to her to save everyone. And something about that made Connor feel a little... a little proud? He was an older brother to Taylor in every sense but the basic biological; and watching his little sister grow up into someone so caring, understanding and mature... well, it made him proud.
A small smile touched his lips as she moved on swiftly. Her maturity and understanding was really impressing him; not quite enough to let her have Cassie stay over, but still. "We'll find somewhere safe for your friend, okay Tay?" he asked, wanting to re-assure the young blonde that he would try his best to help her friend. "The refugee camp is pretty secure and there are plenty of people there who can care for her, and they have an excellent number of healers there." he said thoughtfully, "but if she'd rather prefer an actual home, someone or the other at the Order will be more than willing to take her in; someone who is capable of looking after a pregnant teen." Connor smiled weakly at Taylor, catching her amber eyes, to assure her that thing would be okay. Connor had that affect on people; he could get them to calm down, to see reason and understand what he meant.
How have you been?” Connor shrugged at that, his smile remaining weak as he leaned back into the couch, loosing his posture and making himself more comfortable. "I've been alright." he said, "Still alive; as you can see." he winked at Tay before sighing. "Still no news on Dumbledore; it's kind of frustrating. I'm sure he has great reason for not making himself known to us, but the order could really do with some proper guidance right now. Everyone's just out doing their own thing, trying to save the world when they can: but it's just not the same." He sighed. "Black and Lupin are great: but there's just something about Dumbledore: you know?" Connor; despite being six years older than Taylor, often tended to talk to her about things that bothered him. He knew she was rather young; but she was more mature than her years, and understood things at a more serious level.
"Eh, I dunno. I just hope whatever he's doing will help us get over this... this darkness." He shook his head, "it just feels like we're going no where right now: and I don't know; people will begin to loose hope if we don't do something." Connor sighed again looking away from the blank space on the wall opposite them that he'd been staring at and instead looked over at Taylor now. "How about you? How've you been? Been... out, much?" Connor wasn’t one to just throw around his word, so she left the topic with that, confident that they’d find a solution that the two would agree on. So then the subject changed to one of the most controversial—Albus Dumbledore. Taylor listened to her cousin explain his recent feelings and sense of impending hopelessness. That couldn’t mean good things for anything out of the area where Connor could be working. But he didn’t speak as if something life threatening had occurred to him recently, but then again, just walking around in the open could end badly in these times. Taylor couldn’t agree more, however. There was a morale that only Dumbledore could raise. He seemed to be the center head of everything against Voldemort, and without him, it was very difficult to continue this hope.
Taylor remembered Dumbledore as a kind, enthusiastic Headmaster who has oddities that amused her, such as his love of lemon drops. She had been too caught up in her own personal issues during most of Hogwarts to fully realize the war that would soon come. Part of her resented Dumbledore for leaving all of them in such a difficult time. Yes, Black and Lupin were great, but Dumbledore had a certain quality of himself that made people hopeful in ways they didn’t know they could. The only thing left to do was wait and hope that he was off doing something incredibly important, like killing the Dark Lord himself.
Taylor’s expression conveyed her agreement with her cousin’s words. The two tended to be on the same page with issues like this, although Connor’s logic sometimes tended to be more cynical than hers because she liked to be optimistic.
“I think you’re right,” she replied with a short nod, “He’ll just…” she trailed off, trying to find it in herself to believe her next words, “Show up when the time is right. He’s Dumbledore.” She forced a smile that quickly fell off her face before she crossed her arms and sighed. “Or maybe we will all just have to work harder to be the hope that we all need.”
She got up from her chair and headed towards the kitchen as she responded freely to the next question. “I’ve been alright. Full moon is next week, I was wondering if…” she hesistated, unsure of Connor’s schedule, “If you would be around this month?” Full moons were traumatic no matter what, but she had gone enough of them by herself to be able to near enough take care of herself when her uncle or cousin weren’t around. Still, it was much nicer to wake to a kind smile and a hot cup of tea than to the tedious task of cleaning herself up. “No worries if you’re busy, I’ll be fine, but just curious.”
